Class Newsletter

August 2014

Welcome back to Murrayburn, we hope everybody has had a great summer and is refreshed and ready for a new school year!

Learning and Teaching

We will begin this term with a focus on Friendship and Anti-bullying. We will be working together in our classes to develop strategies for getting along with and supporting others. Later this term we will be focusing on Scottish historical events and linking these to the upcoming Independence vote. We will also have regular outdoor learning sessions. P6 pupils will begin to learn French this session, continuing to do so until the end of primary 7.

Starting from September, P6 and 7 will be setting for literacy. Your child will be in a literacy group with a mixture of P6 and 7 pupils. This is to ensure all children are well supported and reaching their potential.

Homework will start on the week beginning 25th August. Homework will be handed out on Mondays and due in on Thursdays. Homework will usually consist of a spelling task and a maths task, but this may vary from time to time. Thank you for your support with this.

Please ensure that your child arrives every morning for the bell at 8.45am. Children who arrive late disrupt the class and take longer to settle.

Classroom Staffing and Support

As you will know, Miss McDonald will be teaching P6b this year. On Tuesdays, P6a will be taught by Mrs Venn, and the rest of the week by Miss Orren. Staff will be planning together to ensure continuity for all pupils. Ms Frampton will be supporting pupils in both classes this year.

School Letters

Please check every day to see if your child has brought home any letters. A lot of these will have tear off slips to be returned – it would be very helpful if these can come back promptly. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

P.E. kit

Please ensure that your child has their P.E. kit in school all week. The P.E. kit should consist of dark shorts/leggings, a t-shirt in their house colour and black gym shoes. Children should remember that jewellery should not be worn on P.E. days. P6a have P.E. on Wednesdays and Thursdays; P6b on Mondays and Thursdays.

Water bottles

In order to ensure your child is working at their best, we would encourage each pupil to bring a water bottle to school, particularly on P.E. days. The bottle should state your child’s name, and only water is allowed.
